Yowies in Japan!

Cadbury Yowies have been sold in Japan for several years now. It was one of the first international markets targeted and for good reason. The Japanese have a well documented love of Australian animals and preliminary research showed they would at least hold their own in the confectionery marketplace. They have remained very popular since their inception and this is reflected in the number of emails & inquiries I receive from Japan. In fact some of the keenest, most serious collectors come from Japan! More than a handful of Yowie prototype sets have headed to this country!

Our Yowie is sold in two different forms in Japan. In the winter season the Yowie is exactly the same as our own. However in summer chocolate sales barely register in Japan so they are replaced by 5 sticks of candy in a mini Yowie cardboard box. One unique Yowie collectable that is peculiarly Japanese is a set of Mobile Phone Straps! These were not found inside Yowies but sold seperately in the yellow boxes you can see below. They were apparently only available for a short period at the end of 1999.

Japan also has it own version of Yowies. They are known as 'Choco Eggs'. They began in 1998, and have just begun Series Four (September 2000). They concentrate on Japanese animals however you'll recogonise a few like the Loggerhead Turtle and the Stag Beetle. Simply the quality is amazing. They are intricate in detail and beautifully finished.
Series One (24 animals)
Series Two (24 animals)
Series Three (48 animals) - part A & B each had 24
Series Four (24 animals)
Unlike our beloved Cadbury the Japanese collectors of Choco Eggs are spared 25,418 New Zealand Fur Seals and 41,909 Leichardt Grasshoppers when all you're trying to do is find a Emu! Their series are retired at the end of each season. So if you're buying Choco Eggs now (Oct 2000) all you'll find is Series Four. As a result Series One, Two and Three are very much sought after by Japanese and International collectors alike. Sounds like besides a beautiful product they also have consumer relations down pat! Check back here over the next week or so for checklists and pictures. We'll have some Series Four in stock shortly.
